About Russia

Welcome to Russia, one of the most exciting and mysterious countries in the world.

Stretching across the entirety of northern Asia and much of Eastern Europe, Russia covers eleven time zones and incorporates a broad range of landscapes and natural areas: from Arctic tundra, taiga and steppe to subtropical beaches and even desert, fringing the Caspian Sea. Its rich mix of cultures comprises over 185 nationalities, with a population of over 146 million people.

Russia is famous for the imperial city of St. Petersburg, with its baroque palaces and world renowned museums, and the multi-faceted Moscow, housing the majestic Kremlin and legendary constructivist architecture. Russia is a land of superlatives. By far the world's largest country, it contains Europe’s longest river, the Volga, and its largest lake, Ladoga. Here you can also find the world’s deepest lake, Baikal — a true natural wonder.

The Russian heart and soul are best described by novelists like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, who have secured their spots in the pantheon of the best writers in human history. Russia boasts the Bolshoi and Mariinsky ballet companies, and has been home to some of the most influential composers, artists and architects in the world. The complicated period of the Soviet Union and the changes it brought were reflected in the works of such noted figures as the novelists Maxim Gorky, Boris Pasternak, and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and the composers Dmitry Shostakovich and Sergey Prokofiev.

Contemporary Russia is a place where you can discover it all: culture, amazing gastronomy, active getaways and breathtaking natural sights. The local art scene is defined by a remarkable number of modern art galleries, not to mention the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. The Russian fashion world has served as a launchpad for the international success of such figures as Ulyana Sergeenko and Miroslava Duma, making Moscow a new world-class shopping destination.
